The Bible tells us in Psalm 107:20 that God “sent his word, and healed them.”
Joshua 1:8 challenges us: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
Proverbs 4:20–22 makes it even clearer:
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”
Healing Through God’s Word – Medicine for Us
The Hebrew word “marpe”, translated here as “health”, can also be translated as healing, cure or remedy.
So we can also say: God’s Word – a remedy for our whole body! Some of you have probably been prescribed a medicine by a doctor at some point, together with instructions on when, how much, how often and how to take it. Everyone knows that even the best medicine cannot produce results unless it is taken according to the instructions.
Take the Medicine
And we have just read the instructions on how God’s remedy – His medicine – is to be taken in Proverbs 4:20–22: we are to attend to His words, incline our ears to them, not let them depart from our eyes and keep them in the midst of our hearts. They are not meant to go into our heads, but into the very center of our hearts. Hebrews 4:12 describes the power of God’s Word: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” When we go back to the story of creation, we find that God spoke all things into existence. Genesis 1:3: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
Isaiah 55:10–11 tells us that the Word of God will accomplish and carry out that for which HE sent it. His Word in itself contains the power to produce what it says. Healing scriptures in themselves contain the ability and the power to heal and restore. Today we want to encourage you to take HIS WORD according to His instructions. Listen to it again and again, look up the scriptures in your Bible, meditate on them, speak them out loud until they penetrate your spirit – until, so to speak, they have reached the very center of your heart and remain there – and they will surely be health to your whole body. God’s will for you is health and well-being, and we are already looking forward to hearing your testimonies of how God has made you well through His Word.
