Balkan Outreach – God’s Word for the Nations of the Balkans
Our hearts are with the people of the Balkans – mission in the Balkans has been at the heart of our ministry for many years. Our vision is to see these nations filled with the glory of God. That is why we follow God’s call and do our part so that the Gospel of Jesus reaches the people of this region.
Why Mission in the Balkans?
The countries of the Balkans have been shaped by a turbulent history. Many people still carry the consequences of war and upheaval today, and in many places there are only a few vibrant churches. At the same time, we see God opening hearts. That is why we want to be where the Gospel is needed, and to encourage and strengthen the Christians there.
Our Story in the Balkans
Our connection to the Balkans goes back a long way. In 1997, Christoph was pastor of a newly planted church in Romania. In the mid to late 1990s, Cornelia taught and preached in Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in a Christian small group of people from different ethnic backgrounds, which later grew into a church. In Rijeka (Croatia) she also supported the church of British missionary couple Cliff and Jenny Luckhurst.
In 2019, a mission trip with a youth group from Germany took us to a church in Makarska on the Croatian coast. Together we went out onto the streets and told people about Jesus. Since 2019 we have also been partnered with a church in Dubrovnik – from there we carry out mission outreaches to Bosnia together. Encounters like these show us again and again how valuable it is to visit local churches, encourage them and celebrate God together.
What We Do
- Teaching: We teach the Word of God clearly and faithfully and equip believers for their everyday lives and their calling.
- Praise and worship: We celebrate God together with the local people and foster worship in the churches.
- Preaching and prayer for the sick: We preach the Gospel and pray for the sick – because we want to experience God’s power.
- Strengthening churches: We support local churches and leaders and work closely with them.
Where We Minister
Our outreaches take us mainly to Croatia – for example to Rijeka, Makarska and Dubrovnik, where we work together with a partner church – as well as to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We coordinate and support this work from Germany.
How We Work
We don’t come with ready-made programs; instead we serve where God opens doors: in cooperation with local churches and leaders, in church services, seminars and worship nights. We plan our outreaches according to invitations and God’s leading.
