Everyone knows them: the mountains in life. An illness, a deadlocked conflict, financial hardship. Most people talk a lot about their mountains. Jesus taught us to talk to them.

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Mark 11:23 (KJV)

Faith Speaks

Jesus did not say, “Think about the mountain.” He did not say, “Ask God to remove the mountain someday.” He said: “Speak to it!” Right before that, He says, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22). Faith in God does not remain silent. It opens its mouth and speaks what God has said.

This is the authority Jesus has given to His followers. Those who believe in Him are not helpless in the face of their problems. They have authority to speak in Jesus’ name (see Luke 10:19). Notice the promise at the end of the verse: he shall have whatsoever he saith. Jesus links the outcome to what we believe and say.

Doubt Not in Your Heart

Stop telling your mountain how big it is. Tell it how big your God is! Instead of saying, “Things will never get better,” say, “In the name of Jesus—be removed!” Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” say, “I can do all things through Christ.”

The heart is what matters most. Jesus says, “and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe.” Doubt arises when we look more at our circumstances than at God’s Word. Faith grows when we hear and speak God’s promises until they are more alive within us than what we see. Then we no longer speak hoping it might work—we speak because we know that God’s Word works.

And what if nothing moves right away? Then keep at it. The fig tree Jesus had spoken to looked different the next morning (see Mark 11:20). Faith expects the spoken word to take effect—even before you can see it.

Faith in Action

  • Name your mountain specifically—what exactly is standing in your way?
  • Choose a promise from God’s Word that addresses this very mountain, and speak it over the situation in Jesus’ name.
  • Keep speaking it every day this week—and thank God in advance for the result.

Which mountain has to move this week? Let us know in the comments under the post on Facebook—we are standing with you in faith.
